Hooray for the undeniable H force.
?Shooting Stars' at Camelot
http://www.mydesert.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080824/EVENTS16/808240325/-1/newsfront
Palm Springs ShortFest debuted an element of movie-making Saturday it hadn't shown off before.
Stars. Real, glamorous stars.
Jessica Biel and Kirsten Dunst walked down a press line in front of the Camelot Theatres to promote their short films screening in the festival's ?Shooting Stars? program, also featuring films with actors or directors such as Matthew Modine, Tony Shaloub and Kate Hudson.
.....
Dunst, who starred with former Palm Springs resident Tobey Maguire in the ?Spiderman? movies, wore a grayish mini-dress over short shorts as she arrived to support her 13-minute film, ?Welcome.?
Dunst, who made her directorial debut with ?Welcome,? opted to direct because she felt it was time to take that step after growing up as a film actress.
?My friend Bryce (Dallas Howard) had done it, and Gwyneth Paltrow and a lot of people I really care about had done it,? she said. ?It was a nice platform to start my ? hopefully ? directing career.?

I looked at some of the pics, and it looked like Kirsten was having a good time. But, I probably did not go further than her smile---- and she can probably always fool me with her smile. But, I hope she did have a great time. Still, not exactly sure what things she was doing at the fest, but I am sure she got something accomplished. Harmony force is not particilarly impressive right now even when I kind of cheat. I think maybe it would be better for me to be silent until predictions come true... this would avoid much confusion.

YES, Kiki looks much happy - maybe also because her work as director was much appreciated by public and professionals. So this looks like that her career like director will be a big success. I hope we will still see her in many movies and not only behind the camera.
If Kiki was smiling much this is showing for sure that she feels good - no matter if because of her CAL friends, her family or a special man. The important thing for me is only that she is happy
thats all and thats what I whish her for every day, evey night and every moment of her life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even if the chance is only about 0.0001% I still hope to meet one day Kiki

The 5th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival (August 6-9), presented by Royalty Rope Events, will open in Hollywood on Thursday, August 6, with a special spotlight on award-winning cinematographer Darren Lew. The event will showcase three of Lew?s most celebrated short films: ?Bugcrush,? directed by Carter Smith (The Ruins), ?Streak,? directed by Demi Moore, and
?Welcome,? directed by Kirsten Dunst
. The announcement was made today by Festival Director Daniel Sol.
[With a resume consisting of over 11 notable short films, as well as a reel of commercials for Madison Avenue?s biggest brands, Darren Lew is one of Hollywood?s fastest-rising cinematographers. Most recently Lew teamed with Ashton Kutcher?s Katalyst Media and Myspace Celebrity to shoot a slew of famous personalities making pledges of service to President Barack Obama. Directed and produced by Demi Moore, the video featured Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria Parker, Sean ?Diddy? Combs, George Lopez, Ashlee Simpson, Courteney Cox, and Dakota Fanning, among many others, and was broadcast on the Oprah Winfrey show.] ***
?On the heels of last year?s festival, which featured the likes of David Lynch, Paul Haggis, Josh Brolin, Jessica Biel, and David Arquette, we are honored to spotlight one of Hollywood?s fastest-rising cinematographers,? said Sol. ?Darren signifies what HollyShorts is all about. He goes out of his way to give first-time filmmakers access to his services, and it?s definitely time he gets recognized for his excellent work and efforts in this business.?
The Darren Lew HollyShorts Opening Night Spotlight will include the following short films, photographed by Lew: ?Bugcrush,? directed by Carter Smith (The Ruins) was the Sundance ?06 Grand Jury Prize winner for Short Filmmaking and official selection Cannes Film Festival ?06. ?Bugcrush? stars Josh Caras (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2), Donald Cumming (The Favor), Eleonore Hendricks (Creative Nonfiction) and David Tennent (The House is Burning). ?Bugcrush? is the story of Ben (Caras), a small-town high school loner, whose fascination with Grant (Cumming), a dangerously seductive new kid, leads him into something much more sinister than he could have ever imagined.
?Streak,? directed by Demi Moore (Charlie?s Angels: Full Throttle, Ghost, A Few Good Men). Part of Glamour Magazine?s Reel Moments project, ?Streak? stars Brittany Snow (Hairspray), Rumer Willis (The House Bunny), Sarah Wright (The House Bunny) and Madeline Zima (A Cinderella Story) and tells the story of a high school senior, Baylin (Snow), who?s been feeling a little claustrophobic. With graduation just around the corner, she realizes she has very little in common with her so-called best friends. One day at the gym she hits it off with free-spirited Drea (Willis). Soon Baylin?s new friendship takes her on a lucky streak she won?t soon forget.
?Welcome,? directed by Kirsten Dunst
(Spiderman, Marie Antoinette, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People), also part of Glamour?s Reel Moments, stars Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands), John Hawkes (American Gangster) and Lexi Jourden (Two and a Half Men). The short tells how Bill (Hawkes), Cynthia (Ryder) and their daughter Alice (Jourden) move into a new house and find themselves confronted by an unexpected occupant. However, as they decide what to do, the young family learns that sometimes, living peacefully means learning how to get along with anyone?or anything?
Darren Lew is one of Hollywood?s fastest-rising cinematographers. He has worked on projects with such recognizable creative artists as photographer Annie Leibovitz, director/DP Lance Acord (Marie Antoinette), art director Fabien Baron, feature director Ben Younger (Boiler Room), documentarian Albert Maysles, and Vogue photographer Steven Meisel.
His commercial work includes clients such as Nike, Lacoste, Versace, Stella McCartney, Estee Lauder, Volkswagen, Rolex, Canon, Dr. Pepper and GMC. He served as the Director of Photography on Glen Luchford?s ?Dark Yellow,? which took home the top prize for short films at the 2008 Jackson Hole Film Festival, Jennie Livingston?s short ?Who?s The Top,? and doc ?Through The Ice,? Ranier Judd?s short film ?Remember Back, Remember When.?

Nothing to do Monday night? The Jane Hotel now has a lockdown on Monday nights. Aside from the lounge being gorgeous (it’s from the same boys who did the Bowery Hotel), Mondays have turned into a movie night by Up the River NY’s Andrew Simkiss and Matt Creed for the pretty young things. Last night’s screening included short films “Copper on the Chopping Block” and “Welcome” directed by Kirsten Dunst starring Winona Ryder that was completed in 2007. Some things are worth revisiting.

You're welcome, kforab!
Found a blog posted by someone who attended the Hollyshorts opening night, thought I would share it.
HollyShorts Film Festival 2009
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending the opening night red carpet & ceremony of The HollyShorts Film Festival at the Directors Guild of America. It was so much fun! Opening night was dedicated to the work of cinematographer Darren Lew. (He is a well respected film and commercial cinematographer.) In addition to presenting Mr Lew with an award, the festival screened three of his most recent short films; "Streak," Directed by Demi Moore, "Welcome," Directed by Kirsten Dunst and "Bug Crush," Directed by Carter Smith.
All three films were really good. And as a bonus there was a Q&A with the directors and the Cinematographer after the screenings.
It was fascinating to hear Demi Moore, who is stunning in person, discuss her set backs and triumphs as an independent short film director.
And it was mind boggling to hear Kirsten Dunst tell the story of how she lost her crew and location (and got them all back) all on the first day of shooting.
Ah independent filmmaking!
