The Debbie Harry Movie

Has Kirsten signed up to play Debbie Harry in the new Blondie project? Or is it just in discussion? I would really like to see her spread herself in a role as juicy as this one. Kirsten looks alot like her and she also sings! I think she's perfect for this role. This could be a whole new beginning for Kirsten's career.

I thought in interviews Kirsten had said Debbie Harry selected her for the role. But about a month ago Debbie Harry in an interview had this to say:
What about those reports that another Jersey girl, Kirsten Dunst, wants to play Harry in a movie about Blondie?
"That's a rumor that's been going around that's sort of ridiculous," Harry says. "There's all kinds of possibilities, but there's nothing guaranteed."
Confusing. But we can hope for the best.

I think the movie is still in negotiation phase, so nothing is certain. If the project is in development and the role is juicy, I surely hope Kirsten could appear in it.

This might have no bearing on whether the Blondie film gets made or not but in a recent interview Debbie Harry stated that a stage musical of the Madonna film 'Shanghai Surprise' was in development but had been adapted to feature songs by Blondie.

Well here's an update of sorts from a new interview with Debbie Harry.
When word leaked that 'Spider Man' star Kirsten Dunst was rumored to be playing Blondie frontwoman Deborah Harry in a Michel Gondry-directed film about the New York band, fans started hitting Internet message boards in protest. Dunst was quick to responde, saying, "Debbie chose me for this role so anyone who disputes this can take it up with her."
Spinner caught up with the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who just released a new solo album, 'Necessary Evil,' and asked Harry to clarify any rumors as one part of her upcoming Spinner Interview. The iconic frontwoman confirmed that Dunst received her blessing. "She's a really sweet person," Harry says. "I've met with her a couple of times and hung out with her socially. She's just a sweetie." Does that mean she could handle the role though? "I think so. She's probably capable of a lot of things she hasn't been asked to do yet, and doing something that's sort of left of center would be great for her."
Meanwhile, the film is still in the planning stages as Harry admits she's been short on time as of late. "It's something that I'm supposed to be working on," she says. "But it's something that I'm thinking about, and I would base that on Chris [Stein's] and my relationship."
When and if the film does come to be, with the part of Harry presumably settled on, who would Harry like to see play Blondie co-founder and guitarist Stein? "Good question," she says laughing. "I don't know." Let the guessing resume.

It's great that Debbie herself clears things up rather than let rumors get all the way. Two of them seem getting along really well. I do hope Debbie finally settles and starts working her part on the movie soon. Can't wait to see Kirsten as a rock chick and working with Gondry again.

Greetings,
Very nice - I suspected as much all along.
People just make things up when there is not enough information. Come to think of it, they make things up anyway...
Cheers,

More Debbie interview

Interest from Kirsten Dunst in playing Harry in a Blondie biopic. "We met socially, a couple of times, and then we talked about it as a possible project but there's really nothing written. It's not a go. There's no green light. It's not a done deal. It's an idea. She'd like to do it and I think she's terrific. I'd have to put her through a severe audition -- make sure she's good enough!"

GAY.com's interview of Debbie Harrry
http://www.gay.com/entertainment/news/?sernum=6095&navpath=/channels/entertainment/music/
Two years ago, you did an interview with Gay.com and they asked who you would like to see cast as you in a movie about your life. You said, "Well, I don't know; I think Kirsten Dunst could be pretty good." Now, the news that Kirsten Dunst will, in fact, be playing you is all over the news. Do you still think she's a good choice? What about Pink or Scarlett Johannsen?
There's nothing written or happening so far that would make it a done deal. There's nothing concrete at all about the movie so at this point, it's really all hypothetical. As far as Kirsten goes -- well, I've met her a couple of times and she's ... very sweet. But you see, I think it's really too soon to tell. It's very premature, and frankly, I really wish it hadn't gotten so much attention in the press. It's ... hot air really, because there's no script. As far as Pink or Scarlett, that would be wonderful, too. I think both of them are terrific. I didn't know Pink was acting, actually.

With the WGA strike going on, the script is still in the air. So I'm guessing without a script, this project could never be confirmed. Beside, there're always financial culculation/pressure for this kind of project.
I sure hope this is a done deal! Not only because it's Blondie, but also because the possibility that Michel Gondry would direct.
