The producer of OTR tweeted that the film may not be ready for Venice (again? Undecided) , and it's highly likely to be a 2012 releasing. There will be a trailer after summer though.

It does take them long enough to get the film made, so I guess they'll take their time this time.

Rumor has it that OTR's official website is coming in November, and according to excerpt from the Kristen Stewart GQ Interview,  the film is set for release in January next year. I guess we'll just have to wait for some official confirmations.

Thanks for the info gkfi. I can't understand why they would go for a January release. Assuming they think it has Oscar potential they would surely release the film in December?

Anyway we'll have to wait & see I guess.

From an exclusive interview with Walter Salles, the director confirmed that OTR's editing was just finished, only a few steps were left until the film is completely finished. The independent company that produced the film, MK2, is now working on the site and trailer.

Aureliano Tonet, the editor-in-chief of MK2's Trois Couleurs magazine also shares with the interviewer some exciting details about the special details about the special Beat edition of the magazine which is coming out in mid-March.

Josh Dickey from Variety tweeted about On the Road today: OTR is finished. Took 1 year to edit, and is very, very good. According to a discerning and in-the-know viewer, it's so good that it would not be a stretch to see it open Cannes. Producers are thrilled with the result & eager to at least have it there. There were no problems w/ film at; just awaiting the right moment to show & actively start seeking distribution.

I saw that article. "Upside Down" has previously been mentioned as a possible Cannes 'Opening Night' film as well, although this one seems slightly more likely to me.

Either way it's good to hear that the film seems to have turned out so well.

Well the film has now been confirmed for Cannes. I'm hoping/expecting that Kirsten will be able to attend Cannes before she does her U.S promotional work for "Bachelorette".

AMC Networks has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to ON THE ROAD, to be released jointly by the company’s film distribution labels IFC Films and Sundance Selects sometime this fall. Walter Salles’ adaptation of the Beat Generation tome by Jack Kerouac will world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins next week. AMC Networks, which owns IFC and Sundance Selects, is said to have acquired the title in a low seven-figures deal. Multiple people who have seen the film agreed that it contains awards-caliber performances and cinematography, but add that its two-hours-plus length and nebulous narrative will make it a challenge to market to mainstream auds. But ON THE ROAD will unspool with more than one built-in fanbase: Fans of Kerouac’s stream-of-consciousness road trip tale, written in 1951 and published in 1957, will be eager to check out its first-ever bigscreen adaptation. And another factor at the box office will be fervent TWILIGHT devotees, who have been constantly buzzing about her role as Mary Lou since the project was announced two years ago almost to the day. Other cast includes TRON: LEGACY star Garrett Hedlund as Dean Moriarty; Kirsten Dunst as Camille; and Sam Riley as Kerouac’s alter ego, Sal Paradise. Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss and Viggo Mortensen co-star.
