GRAND THEFT HITS SPIDEY'S 'MARY JANE'

KIRSTEN DUNST ROBBED AT SOHO GRAND HOTEL

August 24, 2007 -- Where was Spidey when she needed him?

Two brash burglars sneaked into "Spider-Man" star Kirsten Dunst's swanky SoHo hotel suite and swiped her $13,000 handbag, wallets, cash, cameras and an iPod, The Post has learned.

The heist occurred just minutes after Dunst, actor Simon Pegg, star of the films "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead," and assistant Liat Baruch left the penthouse in the Soho Grand Hotel early Aug. 9 to shoot scenes for her new film, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," authorities said.

Cops, aided by hotel surveillance video, busted one suspect Tuesday as he left Brooklyn Supreme Court, where he was facing pending heroin-sale charges.

Jarrod Beinerman, 33, of Brooklyn, was being held on $50,000 bond after his arraignment Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court on burglary and grand-larceny charges. Cops are searching for Beinerman's alleged accomplice, whose name they know.

Beinerman's arrest came as Dunst - who played Spidey's perky love interest, Mary Jane Watson, in all three "Spider-Man" movies - wrapped up shooting "How to Lose Friends" in Manhattan. Her spokesman declined to comment yesterday.

Beinerman has a long criminal record, including two federal drug convictions in the late 1990s related to his role in a cocaine-distribution ring and to subsequently possessing narcotics in prison.

The Gravesend man, who is a union plumber, served more than three years in prison for those two cases before spending six months in a halfway house, from which he was released in 2001.

In February, Beinerman was busted in Brooklyn on heroin charges, which threaten to send him back to prison for up to 25 years. Since that arrest, he has been free on $5,000 bail.

His latest alleged caper began Aug. 9, when Dunst, 25, Pegg, 37, who is her co-star in "How to Lose Friends," and Baruch, 26, left the actress' penthouse suite at 4:48 a.m., court records indicate.

Within minutes, Beinerman was spotted by surveillance cameras entering the hotel at 310 West Broadway, according to records. A source said he was accompanied by his accomplice.

Beinerman took a guest elevator to the floor below Dunst's suite and then took a freight elevator up to the penthouse level.

There, Beinerman allegedly walked through an open door into the penthouse and stole items belonging to Dunst and her companions, including $2,500, a Marc Jacobs purse, wallets containing IDs and credit cards, several bags - including one by Balenciaga - two digital cameras, a cellphone and an iPod, records state.

Most of the high-value items - including the bag valued at $13,000 - were Dunst's.

Beinerman and his accomplice were caught again on video exiting the hotel with the loot, according to a criminal complaint. The theft was discovered about an 1? hours later.

Authorities have since recovered credit cards, ID cards and the cellphone.

At Beinerman's arraignment Wednesday, his lawyer, James Kirschner, told a judge: "He tells me they were filming a movie that day [at the hotel]. That's why he was there. He went there to check out what was going on."

Kirschner also told the judge that surveillance footage showed Beinerman holding nothing in his hands when he left the hotel.

Beinerman's personal MySpace page showed he last logged onto the site Monday - the day before his bust. His "mood" setting on the page indicated he was "worried."

The page also features the quote, "Learn from your mistakes and grow from misfortune," along with photos of stacks of $20 bills, and plays the 50 Cent song "I Get Money" for visitors.

Most disturbing is that these heroin dealers knew exactly how to get in, whose room to hit and what to take. I wonder if the heroin dealers had been there before for some reason.

This must not give her a safe feeling, I woudn't like staying in a hotel knowing other (not so nice) people were/are able to enter your room. And I don't think this is a cheap hotel either!!!
Let's wag those guys... wich is easy for me to say, living at the other side of the ocean.
Well... violence never solves any problem, but these kind of things make me angry Angry

And we know from this article Liat is indeed Kirsten's assistant this time. Grin
Just kidding!
I'm just glad she wasn't there while the thieves broke in. It's creepy that those people get in so easily.

I am sure Kirsten was quite mad and  unsettled by the burglary.  But, your article does not mention it was life and death, and neither of the other 2 threads posted here on this subject do either.  The burglar and Kirsten/her friends did not meet.

Kirsten always handles things intelligently and with guts (as you pointed out) and I am sure she will take some extra precautions so losers do not do such things again.

And if you read the article quoted at the gallery news on the other side, you will see that a supposed Spidey fan is a possible accomplice. And he has an attorney who is in a movie character dreamworld (how about calling her Ms. Dunst, or Kirsten Dunst?)

"I know James has the deepest respect for Spider-Man and would never want anything to happen to Spider-Man's girlfriend," Bostany said.

I hope, despite the shock of this thing,  that Kirsten knows that there are strange people in any group, and that Spiderman fans, esp here, have  nothing but respect and good feelings for her as a person, and secondly, as an actress.  I am sorry about this.

Anyone can claim to be a spiderman fan so I just hope that they don't use this as cover-up or a scapegoat for doing evil. Undecided

Spidey: Spideyfans, let us be neighborhood friendly okay?

Good point Glen.  All we have is what the attorney said, and it is possible he is/was a Spiderman fan.  As a defense, it does not sound too good -- a defendant's respect for an imaginary superhero and his imaginary girlfriend would inhibit the doing of bad acts.  On the psychological level, I am not sure that a convicted felon would really be a fan of a superhero who catches and/or destroys bad guys/criminals.  The good thing is that, apparently, the police have some good video, which means quite possibly, this will not go to trial.
