see at http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2007/09/25/catching-up-with-simon-pegg/

After months of speculation and back-and-forth from the talent involved, MTV News can finally reveal that Mary-Jane Watson herself, Kirsten Dunst, will return for ?Spider-Man 4.?

Well, ok?maybe.

?Kirsten Dunst has said if I play Spider-Man in the fourth one she will come back,? funnyman Simon Pegg joked with our own Josh Horowitz. ?It?s a slightly porkier webslinger.?

When he?s not kidding around about ?Spider-Man,? Pegg ? the star of ?Shaun of the Dead? and ?Hot Fuzz? ? is joining forces with Kirsten for ?How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.?

?I had a great time on that movie. It was my first kind of lead role in an American film. [But] how absurd is my job?? he laughed. ?Some [pig]-faced Brit gets to hang out with the likes of Kirsten??

As for the future, we already reported that Pegg will hook up with frequent on-screen partner Nick Frost for a road-trip-across-American comedy entitled ?Paul.? The 37-year-old actor may also be re-teaming with director Edgar Wright, he said, and not just in the ?mint chocolate chip? flavored third film in their ?blood and ice cream trilogy.?

?I might be involved as an actor [in ?Them?],? Pegg teased of Wright?s film with Mike White about the reptile rulers of the world. ?I?d like to stay close to Edgar. He?s going to go far.?

There is already a, well how you call those movies like Hot Shots in English, those that mock other movies?, with Rowan Atkinson that's called Spider-Plant Man, I thought it was funny.

It was not so much a movie, more of a sketch made for Comic Relief I believe

seen at http://www.bww.cinematical.com/2007/10/30/breaking-zodiac-writer-boards-spider-man-4/

"With Spider-Man 3 arriving on DVD today, it's fitting that we should receive a major announcement regarding Spider-Man 4. Entertainment Weekly reports that James Vanderbilt (who penned the very awesome Zodiac) has been hired to write the script for Spidey 4, and Sony plans to swing the fourquel into theaters in 2009 (most likely early summer). Whether or not Vanderbilt will be the only writer to take on the project is not known; I wouldn't be surprised if this thing passes through the hands of at least two more writers before it moves ahead. Personally, I don't see the impending writer's strike lasting too long (if it happens at all), and so Vanderbilt should start plugging away almost immediately ... if he hasn't already done so. Most likely he pitched his idea to Sony with a full outline, and so I can't see it taking that long to punch out a draft or two.

What we don't know at this moment is whether Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Sam Raimi will return to the franchise. Raimi has already stated that he wants to be involved in some capacity (most likely as producer), and after taking a critical lashing following Spider-Man 3, it'll be interesting to see if Raimi decides to direct one more. Of course, it probably depends on Maguire and Dunst to a certain degree, but if you ask me, I'd like to see them start from scratch with a new cast and director. Feel free to continue the storyline, but this franchise could use some new blood. There's a writer. There's a potential release year. What say you?"

The newest rumor floating about the Spider-Man franchise is James Vanderbilt's script has enough juice for two films, and that the are going to be shot simultaneously. According to Cinematical, "the studio saw dollar signs and is in the process of reworking his deal to snatch up the story arc."

No word yet on the script details or if Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst or Sam Raimi will be returning.

Til now its quite unclear if Kiki will play there again - look at http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Spider-Man-Springs-Back-Into-Rumor-Mill-8860.html

.....So what does this mean for the future of Spider-Man? Well, it means fan speculation should probably kick back in about Raimi, Maguire, and Dunst, none of whom are contractually obligated to do another movie.....

According to IESB, Marvel's vice chairman Peter Cuneo advised the press during a conference call yesterday that the future of Spider-Man 4 is "up to Sony" with the most likely release date for the film being in either 2010 or 2011, although Cuneo added "we can't speak for them and I think that we don't know."

Cuneo added that Sony hopes to make Spidey 4 "within a reasonable timeframe" and that they "may be looking at some issues with the cast and so on, I think they have to make some decisions."

It looks like Kirsten will be on board :-)

if you look at
http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2008/05/spiderman-4-reports-of-a-new-a.html

...On Superhero Hype half of those in a poll want Sam Raimi, who directed the three previous Spider-Man movies, to stay on, the rest want a new person at the helm. Raimi has said he would be prepared to hand the reins to another director. He told MTV: "Sony Pictures is going to be making many more Spider-Man' pictures. I just don't know what [my] future holds yet. f I can't find the right story that would work for me and that I could tell really well, I would like someone else to tell that story. But if it's a great story and Sony will bring me back to the screen, I would love to."

He added: "It would be really hard for me to make a movie without Tobey and Kirsten [Dunst] playing the two leads. I would seriously think about James [Franco] too, but he bit the dust in this last one."

If Sony considers the price tag too high for another Raimi/Maguire/Dunst collaboration, then the negotiations would turn to keeping Raimi on as a producer only. "I would still hope that Sony would offer it to me [to direct] first," he said. "But that is not my place to say; it would be more about if Sony decided not to go with me. If not, it would be really up to them to come to a solution [for me to still be involved as a producer]."

Don't get your hopes high yet, kforab. Even Raimi himself, who said this in interviews, is not on board yet. And from what I hear, it's highly possible that Raimi will only step in as a executive producer in Spider-man4. Besides, if the studio wants to bring all 3 of them back, it'll need a hell lot of money, which is one of the main reasons they're considering a reboot for the franchise.

seen at http://www.syfyportal.com/news425100.html:

Right now James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it," director Sam Raimi told Dark Horizons. "I think it's going to be done in a few months and I'm hoping that it's as great as our discussions were about it. I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man, and I'm hoping I'm well enough rested to really embrace it. ... I'm also hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those scenes come together, I would love to do it. There's a lot of unknowns about the future."

The bad news? It looks like stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst won't be back for the follow-up. Of course nothing is official yet, and they could still change their minds about returning to the franchise, but both actors were vocal about "Spider-Man 3" being the end of the story as far as they were concerned.
Raimi however still believes that Maguire and Dunst could be tempted to return.

I'd hate to recast anybody in the picture," he said. "I couldn't imagine that. It's like the new Darrin (Bewitched reference, for those who missed it). I don't know. I can't imagine that."
