Dunst, who turns 25 on Monday, is writing her own screenplay - based on a letter.

Wow! Can't wait to see our talented girl's debut short film! Could this be the beginning of a future master in cinema? LOL

Ghost story based on a letter? It reminded me of the synopsis of THE TURN OF THE SCREW somehow.

Here's something more: apparently this short supernatural film will be part of Glamour magazine's "Reel Moments" series of short films by women, based on stories submitted in letters by the magazine's readers. The movie, which is as yet untitled, will star Dunst and her real-life friend Michelle Williams in a ghost story inspired by classic scary films.

"I've always [been a fan of] Roman Polanski and, you know, Repulsion with Catherine Deneuve and, like, Rosemary's Baby," Dunst said in a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week. "I mean, those are my favorite movies. Don't Look Now. ... The Night Porter is one of my favorite movies. ... We just don't make movies like that any more."

Dunst is also writing the movie, which she will begin shooting in August. "They're totally giving me carte blanche," she said. "I pick my letter. I write my script. I pick everyone I want to collaborate with, it's great.

By directing a Glamour short film, Dunst joins fellow actors Gwyneth Patrow and Jennifer Aniston. The film will appear on Glamour's Web site.

gkfi it's funny you should say that. The book 'The Turn Of The Screw' is featured (rather prominently) in the book 'A Jealous Ghost' which Kirsten is planning to co-produce and appear in a film version of.
I'm very excited but not entirely surprised by this news. I can definitely see Kirsten being involved both in front of and behind the camera as she gets older.

It would be wonderful!
Some years ago she said she was interested in directing Sylvia Plath's bio...

I don't know, maybe because I read 'The Turn Of The Screw' a while ago.  Grin 'The Turn Of The Screw' is featured in 'A Jealous Ghost'? Wow, I'd love to see how the film version of it turns out to be, now I'm more intriguing by it!

Can't say I was surprise by this news neither, with Kirsten's love for art and cinema, it's only a matter of time for her to get involved behind the camera. I think maybe we could even anticipating her directorial feature soon!
