Kirsten Dunst is Simon Pegg's new pal

Sharing a beer with Simon Pegg, who stars in new movie How To Lose Friends And Alienate People, I was impressed by the new pals he's made.

In fact he's a bit of a namedropper.

His new chums include Kirsten Dunst and Elton John and of course he's old mates with shoe-fancier Gwyneth Paltrow.

In How To... Simon gets to pucker up to Megan Fox, who's just been voted the world's most beautiful woman - not bad for a ginger bloke from North London! And in the absence of best mate and frequent costar Nick Frost, he had to make do with Kirsten Dunst to hang out with. The poor bloke!

"Kirsten and I were best friends on set. She'd come into my trailer for a cup of tea or I'd go into hers and we would just joke around," said Simon.

And although Kirsten is rumoured to have done a stint in rehab, Simon says she's cleaned up her act big time.

"She is not a big drinker at all," he insisted.

In fact, Simon says he had to twist Kirsten's arm to get her out on the town at all.

"She had an invite to Elton John's ball and I told her she couldn't turn that down. So she took me and I met Elton and other A-list celebrities.

I couldn't believe I was there."

Don't forget Simon already has form for chumming up to the A-list, and is so matey with Chris Martin and Gwyneth they made him little daughter Apple's godfather. But one thing is coming between them - Simon's one-year-old dog, Minnie.

"Apple is gorgeous. I would say I am a good godfather, and I see them a lot, but not if I am with Minnie. Minnie is very boisterous and kids and dogs don't mix."

Simon told me Minnie has already demonstrated a taste for A-list style - she ate one of Kirsten's Ugg boots on set.

And he revealed that he's grooming his pet for stardom.

"She had a part in How to Lose Friends and Alienate people, but she got written out of the script because she wouldn't behave herself on set.

"But I've written her a part in my next movie, and I want to make sure she's in it next time.

I want my dog to be bigger than Lassie."
