Kirsten Dunst, Confronted with 'A Jealous Ghost'
The actress will star in and produce the supernatural thriller

After kicking off her career with the supernatural tale of two vampires trying to find their place in a world where they know they do not belong 'Interview With the Vampire', in which Kirsten starred next to the consecrated actors Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, the young starlet is on her way to work on another movie of this kind.
Until now, Dunst's portfolio included films in which she took on parts of teenagers with issues, comedies and love stories, and that without even mentioning the hit success that she was in-the 'Spider-Man' series. That virtually makes 'A Jealous Ghost' her first foray into the supernatural genre in many years.
The movie will focus on Kirsten's character, a student who travels to London to study. There, she falls in love with one of her professors and embarks on a love affair with him. The only impediment in their lives is that, at one point, the main character starts seeing demons and has to learn to face them.
'A Jealous Ghost' will also feature Kirsten as producer, with the ambitious actress saying that she plans to make it alike 'Shinning' or Roman Polanski's 'Repulsion'. The project is based on a novel by A.N. Wilson but the screenplay (by Megan Holley) will bring some significant changes to it. The most important one would be that the book was written in the third person omniscient, while the movie will present various points of view, with new turns of events and new characters.
No other details about production have been released, but it is expected that Kirsten herself will make them all public at one point or another. Keep you posted.

I've actually read the book and that synopsis of it is a bit misleading, unless they've  changed much of the storyline for the film.
I can certainly understand why they would change the 'point of view' of the film because whilst it works well (for the most part) in the book it'd be very difficult to do visually.
If they get the screenplay, casting, etc right this could well be a cracking film, with a completely different style and feel to the recent 'horror genre' movies.
Anyway i am really looking forward to seeing Kirsten in this film, probably even more than any of her other upcoming films.

Sounds promising! Is the book worth a read then John?

It will be intriging to see how Kirsten applies her production ideas to the film. I know she's a big fan of Roman Polanski, so it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of her inspiration and influences were taken from bits his work.

I have read the book too. As you have said, it is kind of misleading from what the book tells us though. If they do make some changes there may be a possibilty that the movie will turn into another horror clone flick. Which is bad of course. Undecided

I'm trying to resist the temptation of reading the book before the film, it would be too much spoiler especially for a 'horror/thriller' film.

But after all the quality of the film comes down to screenplay, casting, and directing. I'm curious of who will be the director of this project.

I really want to see Kirsten in this kind of movie...
It's completely different from the others she has made.

I think this project was greenlighted by the production company according to Hollywoodreporter, a very reliable media source. So hopefully Kirsten will star in it.

While I'm hoping that KD is taking some time off, probably not... so I was wondering if she has started production in J Ghost?  And secondly, I was wondering how likely it is that it will be filmed in England?  On a quickie internet search, I did not see much new, and nothing that answered my questions.  Anyone?

A quick update re this one.

The lady (whose name i forget  Roll Eyes) who is writing the screenplay for the film said in an interview recently that she's still working on the screenplay, but (obviously) it's on hold whilst the writers strike is ongoing.

I've heard various other rumours re Kirsten making another film in England sometime this year, so putting 2 and 2 together (and hopefully not getting 5  Cheesy) this could well be Kirstens next (or maybe next but one) film.

No doubt in 12 months time someone will post pointing out i was completely wrong about this  Grin.

The screenwriting lady's name is Megan Holley, John.  Grin I believe she also writes for one of this year's Sundance competition flicks, "Sunshine Cleansing", if I remebered correctly.

What about Sweet Relief? It's also an adaptation work, and being in production for ages( at least seems to me it is). So maybe the script for this is now available. If the ongoing writers strike continues, then SR could be the next film for Kirsten.

Thanks to pierre for letting us know that according to a new French article filming of A Jealous Ghost is expected to start in September.

I should point out that this is obviously just an unconfirmed report/rumour at present, and maybe the source of this info is old (might even be my post above! Grin).

Shouldn't Kirsten be on the press tour of HTLF in September? Anyway, John, no doubt in 2 months time someone might post pointing out whether you was completely right or wrong about this.  Grin
