Kirsten told Live magazine:

I was in a lot of pain while I was making ?Spider-Man 3′. Afterwards, I was done with acting. I was so sick of giving myself to other people, because I had nothing in my life that was all mine.

When I finished the film, I needed a very long break from movies. I couldn?t look at a script, I didn?t care about acting and I haven?t worked since, because that?s the thing that?s been causing the most pain.

Geez that's awful. What sorta pain though? I really don't understand... thank God she changed her mind && really I hope this won't effect her chances of being in Spidey 4.

I can't remember when the Live Mag. quote was made.  But looking at her current movie agenda (posted elsewhere), and her producer duties, and her directing efforts, it appears to be a complete reversal from her comments.  Instead of slowing down or stopping, it  looks  like she has doubled her duties, all after finding a full time boyfriend.  And doing the  very thing (making movies) she earlier said was causing her the  pain.   A curious thing.  I wonder what changed her mind?

I wonder what changed her mind?

Well for one thing, she's 25 and when you're in your twenties I think your entitled to change your mind from one day to another.
I like the fact she does say something one day and then do the opposite the next. It makes her  unpredictable. Smiley
I remember her saying something about smoking, but that's discussed here a thousand times.

By the way I'm scared, I'm turning 30 in two months, so I have to have made up my mind by then, but one thing I  never wanna do is "GROW UP"!!! Shocked

I think some of what Kirsten said during that interview got a bit 'lost in translation' shall we say.

The 'pain' Kirsten mentions was clearly mental rather than physical. I also seriously doubt she ever considered giving up acting 'for good', more likely she knew she needed a long break.

My take on the situation is that Kirsten went to the Cannes Film Festival last year expecting Marie Antoinette to be well received. As we all know the film got pretty mixed reactions and Kirsten came back from Cannes feeling quite depressed (Tellingly she mentioned in an interview before the films US release that she was amazed how Orlando (Bloom) could just shrug off negative reviews of his films).

Kirsten then went straight into a hectic month of filming some pretty depressing scenes for Spider-Man 3, no doubt this was probably the last thing she felt like doing at the time.

This is no doubt the main reason why she pulled out of appearing in 'Be Kind Rewind' last autumn, and also probably why she was so keen to appear in 'How To Lose Friends'. It's a 'fun movie' as she puts it.

Oh and mark you're quite correct....Never grow up !  Grin

And I still remember when Kirsten went to the Cannes Film Festival last year, she and Sofia said in one of the interviews that Marie Antoinette was well received in France in advance (that's true actually, even the famous Cahiers du cin?ma gave it a 4 star out of 4! ), so their expectations for the movie's Cannes journey must be high. But then...bam! The notorious festival boo came in! It must be depressing to see the movie you love panned by the critics, and even more so to find out the story was blow out of proportion by the media.
