Thanks for the link Adriano. Guess what link I was just about to post?  Grin

Kirstens two most recent films were both 'out of the blue' when they were announced so this might make it three in a row.

I was about to post the same link, LOL

Spontaneous choices sure are not bad at all. Maybe this also explains why Kirsten will be in Cannes besides attending The Art of Elysium charity dinner?

On another note, if Kirsten indeed signed for this, my guess would be that Spider-man 4 most likely is not of the picture? After all, Spidey is going into production this fall.

Here's some info about the film.

"Remember when I said that 2009 was going to be a big year for film? Check this out. Juan Saolanas, the dude behind the short film The Man Without A Head, has come up with another film that he must of thought up while taking copious amounts of drugs. It's a world with an upside down world which is just out of reach, and to boot, it's a love story. I'm already salivating.

Look up towards the sky and rub your eyes because you won’t believe what you see: cities, forests, and oceans with their own inverted gravity, only an arm’s length away, yet completely unreachable. Take a leap over to this alternate reality, two worlds – one above, one below‐ facing each other, and you’ll land in the extraordinary world of Upside Down, the new ground‐breaking film of Juan Solanas, the director of the innovative Cannes and César‐prized short film The Man Without A Head and heartbreaking 2005 Cannes film Nordeste.

Adam is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary universe. He lives humbly trying to make ends meet, but his romantic spirit holds on to the memory of a girl he met once upon a time from another world, an inverted affluent world with its own gravity, directly above but beyond reach… a girl named Eve. Their childhood flirtation becomes an impossible love. But when he catches a glimpse of grown‐up Eve on television, nothing will get in the way of getting her back… Not even the law or science!

Now how does that sound? Seriously, hurry up!".

Anyone else think this plot sounds as bonkers as "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind"?. Assuming Kirsten does sign on let's hope it turns out as good as that film.

gkfi I don't think that Kirsten would have to 'drop' Spider-Man 4 to appear in this film. I'm fairly sure that principal photography of Spider-Man 4 won't start before January next year and (I might be wrong but) it sounds to me like "Upside Down" will be going into production in the next month or two.

Thanks for the info, John!
Admittedly, the plot does sound Michel Gondry-esque to say the least. If the movie turns like it promised - an unpredicted love story with wild imagination and breathtaking visuals, I'd be thrill to see it even if Kirsten doesn't come on board.

Another report from Variety:

Another highlight on Kinology's slate is Juan Solanas' romance "Upside Down," for which Melin is in talks with Kirsten Dunst and Emile Hirsch to topline.

Thanks to Google and its doesn't-always-make-sense Translation function, now we have a Spanish interview with Juan Solanas, director of Upside Down.

I know almost nothing about Spanish, so feel free to correct me, but he basically confirmed in the interview that Kirsten and Emile Hirsch has signed for this project. It'll be an independent movie with 55 million dollars budget. The story has been developed for more than four years and quite possibly influenced by the director's love for Tim Burton. Shooting has scheduled to begin in 2010 in Australia. He chose Kirsten because "She fascinated me in Elizabethtown, a movie that combines sensibility, poetry, fragility and humor."

Yea that' pretty much what it says; he also says he loves the fact that she seems to be simple and nice who, even tough she is pretty, doesn't care about being a sex symbol.

They talk about her in this interview like she already signed for the part... they say she is working with him in the movie and that he hopes emile hirsh, whos hasn't sign his contract, does it as well.

Thanks pam_cris! If she indeed has signed for the part, given the fact Spider-man will go into production in 2010 also, I'm guessing the one would have to wait till Spidey finishes?

Another spot-on prediction  Grin Wink

Assuming Kirsten does end up filming both "Upside Down" & "Spider-Man 4" next year I'm beginning to doubt if Kirsten will make a film this year?

Let's hope I'm as (in)accurate with this prediction!  Grin

Jim Sturgess & Kirsten Dunst Cast in Sci-Fi Film Upside Down

Upside Down is a new project from Argentinian filmmaker Juan Diego Solanas that is being described as "an alternate reality and groundbreaking" sci-fi film. According to Production Weekly, Solanas has just cast Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst, two great actors, to star in this project. The very, very basic plot is that "a man searches an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth." However, the concept is much more twisted and incredible beyond that, as you might expect for a sci-fi film with a title like Upside Down.
