Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan,  Adam Scott and Casey Wilson are attached to star in an indie comedy being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay via their Gary Sanchez productions.

Leslye Headland wrote the script, which has a working title of Bachelorette (that will likely be changed), and is directing.

The story follows three best friends (two of whom would be played by Caplan and Dunst) who are invited to act as bridesmaids at the wedding of a girl they called “Pigface” in high school. The producers are still in the process of casting the third best friend.

Caplan’s character is described as having a Playboy Bunny body with a Larry David brain. Dunst's character appearance is described as crisp and severe, and she is referred to as your best friend and your worst enemy.

Wilson, one of the stars of ABC’s Happy Endings, is playing the bride, who has big plans for three women. Scott, who starred with Caplan on the dearly departed comedy Party Down, will play Caplan’s high school crush, who shows up at the wedding with a beautiful and much younger date.

The project, with a budget only in the $3 million range, is in the process of lining up its financing. Depending on scheduling, producers are hoping to shoot this summer in New York.

The movie would be the feature directorial debut of Headland, repped by CAA and Caliber. Headland was at one point an assistant to Harvey Weinstein before becoming a staff writer on the FX show Terriers.

The project began life as a play titled Bachelorette, which was an off-Broadway hit last summer, where it caught the attention of execs from Gary Sanchez.

This sounds believable/likely but I'll keep an open mind on this one until there's an official announcement.

Heh heh a $3 million budget? That has got to be the 'cheapest' full length film Kirsten has worked on for about 15 years!

How on earth haven't they already secured a merely $3 million budget with this cast and crew? I've also heard wonderful things about Bachelorette the play (also penned by Leslye Headland).

I'm guessing the £3 million shouldn't be too difficult to find now that they have most of the cast signed up.

I'm still amazed at the (comparatively) miniscule budget for this film. Assuming this story is genuine & the budget is correct then I can only assume that Kirsten (& the rest of the cast) have signed on for 'nominal' fees to ensure the film gets made, possibly with an agreement that they will get a percentage of any profit the film makes?

Kirsten mentioned in a recent interview that she was looking for a "smart comedy" for her next role. Hopefully she has found it.

If Lars von Trier could produce a sci-fi psychological disaster film with a stellar cast for less than $10 million, I'm sure they can somehow make this comedy work.  You're probably right about nominal wage and special agreement, John. There was a case in which an actor in a leading role declined an upfront salary and get paid 30-40% of the film's profits, can't remember whom exactly though.

Apparently, news broke out in Cannes that Elle Driver (a French sales company) is now handling world sales of Bachelorette outside North America.

The film, written and directed by Leslye Headland, and based on her stage play, is produced by Gary Sanchez Productions and BCDF Pictures. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Jessica Elbaum, Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra and Lauren Munsch are producers.

Now, according to the ever notorious IMDB, Isla Fisher is listed among the cast as well.
And rumor has it that principal photography of this movie starts in two weeks.

I saw that too gkfi. Both bits of news sound plausible enough but as you say it is IMDB so who knows?

Kyle Bornheimer Joins "Bachelorette"

Kyle Bornheimer has booked a role in "Bachelorette," an indie comedy starring Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan.

Bachelorette, written and being directed by Leslye Headland, centers on three friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school.

Bornheimer is playing a man who was somewhat of a stoner-loser in high school who had a crush on the prom queen, and at the wedding she still has no idea who he is.

Rebel Wilson will replace Casey Wilson in the indie comedy "Bachelorette."

The actress, who played Kristen Wiig's roommate in the hit comedy, just got the plum role to replace Casey Wilson in the all-star indie comedy Bachelorette, being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Prods. shingle.

Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott are cast in the movie, which follows three best friends (Fisher, Caplan and Dunst) who are invited to act as bridesmaids at the wedding of a girl they called Pigface in high school.

Casey Wilson was to act as the bride but fell out due to a scheduling conflict with ABC's Happy Endings, in which she stars and shoots in L.A., while Bachelorette just began filming in New York.

According to Rebel Wilson's twitter account:
“My job yesterday was to yell terrible things right in Kirsten Dunst's face on the streets of Brooklyn.”


Also, The New York City Mayor's Office has revoked filming permits in the Big Apple ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irene this weekend. The city's Media and Entertainment Department told Entertainment Weekly that shooting scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled due to safety concerns.

Film and TV productions originally planned to film in New York tomorrow include a movie adaptation of hit play Bachelorette, starring Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher, as well as reality shows Hoarders and Clean House.

The Mayor's Office confirmed that the projects and an additional three small productions had already rearranged their schedules due to the presence of Hurricane Irene.
