Kirsten Dunst, Orlando Bloom Join Clive Owen in Roger Donaldson's 'Cities'
by Jay A. Fernandez

Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom have joined the cast of the international thriller Cities. Clive Owen and Anil Kapoor also star for writer-director Roger Donaldson and producers Matthew Metcalfe and Chris Curling. Filming is scheduled to begin in the spring in London, Mumbai and New York.

Cities takes place in the months before the Dow Jones stock-market high, intertwining the stories of characters around the globe including a New York hedge fund manager, a Mumbai policeman and a couple looking to buy a home in London.

“Cities is very much a movie for our time,” said Donaldson. “The subjects of greed and money and their impact on our every day lives surround us constantly, and Cities is a movie that will explore this in a dramatic way with tension and excitement at every turn.”

Eyeworks New Zealand is partnering on the production, and CEO Julie Christie is an executive producer. UTA’s Independent Film Group helped to package the film and structure the financing; the agency will rep domestic rights with CAA. Parlay Films is handling international rights.

Also, according to Indiewire, the film is described as a cautionary tale, blending three interlinking story lines—a New York hedge fund manager (Owen) chasing sex, money and power, a Mumbai cop investigating corrupt colleagues (one of whom is Kapoor) and their links to property speculators, and a young London couple finding it difficult to plant a foot on the property ladder. Dunst will play the character of Kate, in Owen’s storyline while Bloom’s role hasn’t been revealed, though we presume he’s one half of the London couple.

With filming set to start next Spring (rather than the previously quoted October 2011 date) things start to make sense (from a timing persceptive).

Kirsten has her 2-3 months off up to the new year, she then films her mystery 'weird' film with Mark Ruffalo & Billy Crudup, & then presumably has a few weeks off before filming "Cities".

I'm not sure about this film to be honest. At the moment I'm more excited about the 'weird' film....but that's probably because I know nothing about it!  Grin Wink

According to variety.com (who don't often get it wrong) Dominic Cooper is set to replace Clive Owen (who has had to pull out due to other filming commitments). Filming is now expected to start in June this year.
