I too was absolutely speechless when I heard the news.

Given that the Golden Globes has two separate categories for best actress this was the one nomination I was certain Kirsten would get.

There are probably two actresses in the 'Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy' category who I think the Golden Globes might list in a straight top 5 best actresses list so in effect they are saying that Kirsten's performance is (at best) only the 8th best performance of the year. Absolutely unbelievable.  Shocked Angry

I don't think Kirsten is the only person (or film) to have had a raw deal this awards season but IMHO she has had the rawest deal of all.

Can't say I'm surprised actually. When it comes to awards season, nominations have more to do with campaigns and tractions than actually performances. With the whole Lars-von-Trier-Cannes scenario(which was blowing out of proportion IMHO), Melancholia won’t win any popularity contests in Hollywood.

Besides, Justine is not exactly what I would call a crowd-pleasing character, and some would argue that she was only heavily featured in the first half of the film. If you look at HFPA's history, this kind of subtle performance is not usually what they would go for.

I'm glad at least some critics awards have listed Kirsten as their choices for winning this year's Best Actress (though some of them only listed her as runner-ups).
