By the way, I'm going to France next weekend, and stay in the Drome region for three weeks... yeah
Great... I just hope you're gonna have a better weather than in Paris! (because here it's alternatively little rain then a little sunny and just after rain again, and that since the beginning of the week I think...)

you want to actually learn about marie antoinette other than the gossip and rumors in that aweful movie read a book on her. She didn't get away on a carridge... the french people broke into the castle looking for marie antoinette, king louis, and their childern. They were locked up captive seperately from eachother. If louis and marie didn't give up the crown they were going to beheaded, but either way they still would of been. The lost dauphin marie's son and heir to the throne was forced to drink alohol while he was beaten, and forced to curse his parents. He was only 8 years old he died in captivity at 10
Marie wasn't a bad queen everything about her was over eggagerated just like that horrible movie that sopia made on marie antoinette. You try running a country with your husband while trying to help other countries with their war (american revolution), and trying to save money for your own people. She never said let them eat cake, and her rumored love for ferguson was true ,but she never betrayed her husband. Like i said read a book if want learn about marie antoinette
"i know they have come to paris to demand my head, but i have learned from my mother not too fear death and i shall await with firmness"
thats a real qoute from marie antoinette the last queen of france.

Kirsten is stunning, the costumes are beautiful, the locations are breathtaking. Perfect set-up for a really good classic film with a classic actress in it.
However, being a fan of Kirsten's for many years, I have to admit I've been very disappointed in the film. I've seen many films like this one, and I was anticipating a really good one. Kirsten wasn't allowed to display her true talents as an actress in it. She wasn't allowed enough lines in the film, her character of Marie was poorly written and the movie didn't have a storyline. All I had to pay attention to was the costumes, the gossip, and the scenery. I didn't get to focus on Marie, the historic character that she was and that Kirsten would have created so beautifully, had she had the opportunity.
The ending was definitely a let down, to say the least. Kirsten's scene was beautiful but the script was horribly lame. I don't believe an actress with Kirsten's magnitude and maturity can possibly do everything she wants to do with a badly written character as this.
I waited a long time to see the movie and Kirsten's portrayal of the Queen. But I did see Kirsten's beauty, many times highlighted beautifully. I just wanted to see her really show her talents and she wasn't allowed to do that.

I tend to disagree a bit on the above views of MA, noting that I have only my opinion to rely on. I don't think the director was trying to give a valid portrayal of MA as a historical figure. I think she created a fictional queen set in circumstances much like many celebrities inhabit (for instance, Hollywood). She went after what is popularly known as the good life (money, extra lovers, too many dresses, hypocrisy, destruction of innocence, and lack of privacy). It is interesting that MA became an actress after some pretty bad things had happened to her. Perhaps the modern music was a tip off concerning Sofia's motives. There is a lot of pretty dark sarcasm in the movie. But the ending was hopeful, with MA trying to escape with her family, and thinking. I suspect that's the lesson of the movie. Within the context of this movie, Kirsten did a wonderful job. It's not a historical movie, despite the costumes and location.
Fantasia and It's a Wonderful Life were box office failures, and were later crowned as classics. I'm not sure how much MA earned, but let's see how MA does in the long run.

Hamlet,
I really appreciate your opinion of MA. I'm so glad there are people out there appreciating this effort, especially on Kirsten's part. Like I said, I enjoyed the scenery and costumes and I think Kirsten did a fantastic job, but I was really looking forward to a movie that would send Kirsten's career into Oscar status, if you know what I mean. I really want her to have that clout, and I was hoping MA would do that for her.

I'm pretty sure (meaning it's my unsubstantiated opinion) that Oscars don't help actors much. But... if it is imp....Kirsten probably helped herself in later Oscar consideration by doing Marie Antoinette. If I remember RSVP's stats, she was on camera more for that movie than any other movie she's been in. She was the title character, and she was gutsy in a movie that was quirky and off the wall, and showed many facets of her talent. And importantly, it showed her also as an adult instead of just a teen queen. These are imp. achievements as an actress.
I'm sorry if it didn't do well financially, but at some level people in the industry will have to give her some credit for holding the movie together pretty much by herself. And maybe MA will be more in vogue when KD has played several young adult roles. I think KD can grow, and do even more wonderful roles (if she continues to try real hard).

Absolutely. I agree. I am one of Kirsten's biggest fans, and sure, I want to see her go far. I really did enjoy her performance in MA. I love that she's in almost every scene and she's stunning to say the least. I suppose that you are right. Kirsten got exceptional reviews for her wonderful performance in MA and that makes me happy for her.
I do want to see more and more credibility for her as one of the best young actresses of today's generation.

Good conversation between Hamlet and Kikid (Sondra), thanks. Personally I think the movie is a major achievement and will be seen as such in future years, once the failed expectations (esp. historical accuracy) don't matter so much to people.

I love Marie Antoinette movie
It's beautiful and I don't understand why people hate it. Sofia Coppola (and the cast) made a good job!
